Turkey Tails. Violet-toothed Polypores. Bushy Beard lichens. These are just some of the New England mushrooms you might encounter on the Mushroom March, a unique experience crafted just for you March 25th-27th in Woods Hole.
The weekend will be led by mycologist Dr. Lawrence Millman and founder of the Rhode Island Mycological Society Deana Tempest Thomas and will focus on ecology, diversity, and identifying interesting non-edible fungi growing at this time of year on Cape Cod.
Meet fellow mushroom enthusiasts and deepen your knowledge of the various local species in this three-day, two-night package weekend in our quaint, seaside village.
The weekend Itinerary for March 25th-27th is listed below:
Friday
3-5 pm Check-in at the Woods Hole Inn
5-6:30 pm – Meet over beer and wine with Larry Millman and Deana Tempest Thomas at the Woods Hole Inn. Wear your favorite mushroom hat, mask, or shirt and the best costume will win a prize. *Masks are required*
Dinner – Dinner is on your own for the evening. Try one of the local restaurants within walking distance or take a short drive into Falmouth for more options. Please click HERE to find out about winter dining options in the area
Saturday
8-9 am – Enjoy our famous Woods Hole Inn breakfast overlooking the harbor
9:30 am- 10:15 am- May the Fungi Be With You! — whiteboard Introduction by Larry Millman about the mysteries and secrets of our local fungi
10:15 am – 12:30 am – Fungal Foray #1
Materials – bring a pocket knife, a hand lens or magnifier, and — most important of all — a spirit of adventure!!! If you wish to take any fungi samples home please bring containers so you can store them in your car
1:00- 2:30 pm Lunch – a pre-fixed lunch at the Quicks Hole Tavern which is included in the package price
2:30 -4 pm – Fungal Foray # 2

Sunday
8-9 am – Enjoy our famous Woods Hole Inn breakfast overlooking the harbor
9:15 am – Mini-Mushroom walk-in the neighborhood
10:15-11 am Check-out is on Sunday before the educational journey
11 am -12 pm Educational journey around the identification tables on the patio by Larry and Deana
