You Are Welcome Here (YAWH in Woods Hole!)
Woods Hole has long been viewed as a very welcoming village in Falmouth, and the “You Are Welcome Here” campaign was created to highlight that all are welcome in Woods Hole. Since June is pride month, we thought we would get a head start by highlighting the many Woods Hole institutions that are LGBTQ-friendly!
Started at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2010, the “You Are Welcome Here” made its way to Woods Hole via Alec Bogdanoff, a graduate student in the Joint Program between MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).
If you walk around Woods Hole, you may notice stickers like the one pictured below. The sticker indicates that the establishment is LGBTQ-friendly (although they may be even without the sticker!).
The You Are Welcome Here (YAWH) campaign is based on the “Safe Space” campaigns at other universities and communities across the United States. We are excited to see it here in effect in our little village! Read on for more Pride month activities throughout Cape Cod and the Islands.

Family Friendly Pride Event
Start Pride Month with the Family Friendly Pride Event to benefit the Cape & Islands Trans Resource Fund on June 4, 2022 in Brewster! Visit the event for live music and entertainment, resources, crafts, and more!
PFLAG Cape Cod & the Oak Bluffs Pride Parade
The Cape Cod chapter of PFLAG, a group dedicated to providing resources for the health and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community, is celebrating Pride Month in Martha’s Vineyard! The Oak Bluffs Business Association is hosting their first ever Pride Parade. The weekend-long event features DJs, dance parties, a parade, and a drag brunch. Anyone who identifies with the LGBTQ+ community or is an ally is welcome to march in the parade on June 11, 2022! PFLAG Cape Cod will be hosting events throughout June to generate support and community in Woods Hole.
Woods Hole Diversity Community & GLOW
The Woods Hole Diversity Community creates a community calendar for events each month! Each month, GLOW hosts a Virtual Happy Hour from 5:30-6:30 pm. GLOW is an organization of members from various Woods Hole science institutions and the Woods Hole community. As a group, they seek to make Woods Hole a welcoming place to live, work, and visit while providing abundant support and resources. All are welcome to be a part of GLOW!
Cape Cod Pride
Cape Cod Pride hosts events all summer to allow communities to engage in conversation, try something new, and grow the LGBTQ+ community throughout Cape Cod. Visit their calendar to review the events and RSVP when necessary.
