Five Fun Things to Do in the Fall

Here are five (5) fun fall activities to enjoy in the area, perfect for the season’s crisp air, colorful foliage, and relaxed pace:

1. Discover the Cranberry Legacy of Cape Cod!

Fall is cranberry harvest season, and many are grown right here on Cape Cod! Explore cranberry harvesting with the whole family this fall.

Cape Cod Cranberry Bog Tours Step into one of Cape Cod’s most iconic traditions with a fun and educational Cranberry Bog Tour led by a grower with over 35 years of experience. Depending on the season, you’ll see the bogs in bloom, watch the berries grow, or witness a vibrant harvest in action. Learn about the history, science, and cultivation of cranberries while taking in scenic views, spotting local wildlife, and capturing photo-worthy moments. Tours run daily (weather permitting) from mid-June through December.

Annie’s Crannies is located in Dennis. Stop by, and the crew will give you a tour through their scenic bogs, show you their processes, and tell you stories about Cape Cod. Annie’s Crannies will put you to work cleaning berries on their antique screening equipment. The gift shop and barn are both full of antique equipment and machinery as well as delicious jams, fresh fruit, and more! Not only do they grow cranberries, but they also make their own honey and beeswax candles!

The largest organic cranberry bog on Cape Cod is located at Cranberry Bog Tours in Harwich. Reserve your spot for a daily tour of the bog, the equipment, and the farm animals! Before and after your tour, stop by the farm stand and gift shop for gifts, farm-fresh eggs, and cranberry items!

2. Run & Cheer: Fall Race Season in Falmouth

Celebrate the season with Falmouth’s fall race lineup, from the iconic Falmouth in the Fall Road Race to the festive Chase the Turkey and Jingle Jog. These are perfect for runners, volunteers, and spectators alike!

Falmouth in the Fall– Participate, volunteer, or watch the local fall road race held each autumn since 1979! The Falmouth in the Fall Road Race is a 7-mile route on the same seaside course as the ASICS Falmouth Road Race. Each year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a featured charity partner to support the community. This year’s race date is Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, at 11 am! Visit the Falmouth in the Fall website for more information!

Kick off the holidays with two fun runs in Falmouth: the Chase the Turkey on Thanksgiving morning is a 4.2-mile trail run through scenic Beebe Woods, a great way to start the day with a mix of challenge and cheer. In early December, don your festive gear for the Jingle Jog 5K and Kids GhELF Run, a spirited dash through downtown during the Holidays by the Sea weekend. Both races offer a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the season and support the local community.

3. Get into the Swing: Golf Falmouth!

Cape Cod is home to many beautiful and scenic golf courses! Whether you are just beginning to play or are on the road to becoming a pro, Cape Cod has 27 public courses and 15 private facilities for all skill levels.

Test your skills at the 27-hole, year-round, public golf course at Falmouth Country Club. Looking for a shorter course? The Paul Harney Golf Course is a 3,500-yard, 18-hole public course. The Cape Club is the oldest course in the Falmouth area, opening in 1895.

Interested in joining a private club? Visit Sacconnesset Golf Club for 18 holes over 7,005 yards with a par of 72. Also, try the Woods Hole Golf Club, a scenic course overlooking Buzzards Bay and Quissett Harbor.

4. Whale Watching

The best time to see whale activity in the area is in September through mid-October when the whales migrate south. Baitfish fill the waters around the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, attracting humpback, finback, and minke whales as well as dolphins and seals!

Join Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises for a memorable journey to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat! The Whale Watcher is a 130 ft long, 28 ft wide vessel with no external propellers to protect whales and other marine life. With three viewing levels, enjoy the sun deck or sit inside as well as enjoy snacks and drinks on board.

Each trip is about 3.5-4 hours and is led by their experienced captains and narrated by expert naturalists. Look for splashing, blows, backs, dorsal fins, or tails at the surface. Before going on your trip, remember to dress warmly, wear appropriate shoes, bring sunglasses and don’t forget your camera!
