Woods Hole Inn pond

Hello from Woods Hole

Hello, Woods Hole Inn friends and family –

We hope you are all healthy and well in this unprecedented time. Life in Woods Hole is quieter than usual, with the inn open for emergency workers and those in transit with travel emergencies. We plan to resume regular operations as soon as this order is lifted, which is currently expected to be June 8th.

We are all well here, using our time wisely to upgrade things at the inn and also to implement all sorts of new procedures so we can re-open safely for your visit this summer. I think we have all earned a vacation!

In the meantime, enjoy our photo essay of life here in the time of the pandemic, and be sure to read to the end to learn more about how we are doing AND our special offer of a 40% discount on gift certificates…

Taking an early spring sail on Eel Pond alone in a dinghy is perhaps the definition of perfect social distancing. The residents of Woods Hole and Falmouth have been diligently quarantined for over seven weeks now, and we are seeing a flattening of the curve on Cape Cod.

The peepers have come alive in our local vernal pools, and with the streets particularly quiet, we have seen foxes, otter and plenty of geese.

One significant storm blew through in mid-April knocking out power for a few hours. We have spent some time dreaming about life in this little cabin seen here in winter storage on Eel Pond, a perfect hideaway.

Water Street

Local restaurants have shifted to a take out model, including our beloved neighbors Water Street Kitchen who remained open throughout. By mid May, we expect Quicks Hole Tavern and Taqueria, Landfall, Captain Kidd, Woods Hole Market and Pie in the Sky to all be open for the summer season with new procedures in place for your safety.

Empty streets are improved with street art, this one reads “All Birds, All Songs” which seems quite fitting in this time where we are all working together to beat the scourge of the virus. In the distance, you can see the porch of the inn which was re-built this winter. In addition, we have been painting rooms and generally using our newfound quiet time wisely to prepare for your return.
