Visit the magical island of Martha’s Vineyard for the day — storied vacation-land for presidents, celebrities and captains of industry. Stroll the quaint streets, prowl the excellent shops and savor a meal in one of Cape Cod’s finest restaurants. The ferry terminal is right across the street from the Inn, making day trips especially convenient.

Cape Cod Beaches

The Woods Hole Inn is within a half mile walk of two gorgeous beaches. In addition, Falmouth boasts over 70 beaches many of which are accessible with a $10/day parking pass sold at the front desk. We offer beach towels, also available upon request at the front desk.

Cape Cod Boating

Boating & Fishing

Woods Hole is a peninsula with water wherever you look. The currents and tides that run between here and the islands are famous for their treacherous passage, but also excellent for cultivating active sea life and fishing. People come from around the world to sport fish these scenic waters. Some want adventure, others a scenic visit to the deserted beaches and hidden coves, still more a private sail to the Vineyard.

Biking the Cape

We offer rental bikes to explore the Shining Sea bike path that starts at our doorstep here in Woods Hole and travels eleven miles past beaches, cranberry bogs, marshes filled with rare birds and through downtown Falmouth. Borrowing our bikes makes an excellent afternoon adventure for any cyclist. The terrain is relatively flat, and the bike path runs along the former railroad bed so is nowhere near an actual road.

Cape Cod Shopping

Shopping

Walk out the front door of the inn and explore the shops of Woods Hole. Or hop the charming trolley and ride three miles into Falmouth’s Main Street for more. Walk across the street to the Martha’s Vineyard ferry and sail off to The Vineyard where exclusive shops like the Black Dog, Vineyard Vines and Menemsha Blues line the quaint streets.

Golf & Tennis

There are several free tennis courts in Woods Hole, all within walking distance of our front door. There are many public golf courses to choose from, or call us to arrange 9 or 18 holes on a private Rees Jones-designed course located about 20 minutes drive from the inn.
